Get back to Trapani
A stone's throw from the Palazzo Senatorio you will find the Torre dell’Orologio (the Clock Tower). Dating back to the 13th century and housed within one of the city’s sighting towers, it forms part of the oldest city gate in Trapani. If you look closely you will notice a very special clock on the facade of the tower, which is also one of the oldest astronomical clocks in Europe (dating back to 1596). This astronomical clock, on which there is a sundial and moondial, has hands that instead of indicating the time indicate the signs of the zodiac, solstices, equinoxes, seasons and cardinal points, while the moondial indicates the phases of the moon.
