Get back to Trieste
Barcolana

On the second Sunday of October, the most awaited sporting event of the year takes place in the Gulf of Trieste: the Barcolana. The historic regatta takes its name from the Trieste Riviera, so dear to its inhabitants. Thanks to its "open-minded" regulations, it is the most crowded regatta in the world: the restrictions on participation are really reduced to the bone and therefore it is a unique opportunity for lovers of this sport to compete alongside the greats of international sailing. In fact, for most of the participants, their ranked position is not important. There are even those who "buy" a ride on board offering in exchange some good wine. A sea party, in short. The Barcolana is not only a regatta, and it is not limited to the time necessary for the boats to cover the distance, but it is a rejoicing that lasts a week, between themed exhibitions and concerts.
